Please note that we have hired our articling students for the 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 years.
Our Firm
Campbell, Marr LLP is a mid-size law firm situated in downtown Winnipeg. We practice in many areas of the law, including Civil Litigation, Insurance Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Real Estate, Wills and Estates, Agricultural Law, Aboriginal Law, Foreclosure and Collections and Professional Governance.
Expectations and Goals
We do not segment your articling experience into predetermined departments for predetermined time periods, but instead have you cover various areas of law throughout the year. Although you will be articled to one principal who will have the overriding responsibility for your articles, you are expected to work for all lawyers throughout the year, becoming exposed to various practicing styles and techniques, and gaining experience in a wide variety of practice areas. Your interests are also taken into account, as we attempt to ensure additional exposure is given in specific areas of interest.
You will be expected to conduct research, appear in court, meet with clients, draft pleadings, draft contracts, agreements, wills, etc., and attend to various other client related matters.
You will be provided with a private office, computer, telephone, voice mail and secretarial support. You will be provided with access to online resources for research.
You will be expected to move rapidly from observing, learning about and participating in particular matters, to be being able to have conduct of such matters with minimal assistance. However, we operate an open door policy and you are welcome to ask questions and receive assistance on any matter when required. We take pride in assisting our students in becoming capable lawyers able to grow and contribute to the legal community.
Feedback
You will meet regularly with your principal and will receive feedback throughout the year from the lawyers with whom you work. You are provided with a comprehensive evaluation twice during the articling year.
Salaries & Benefits
We provide a competitive compensation package to our students. In addition, you participate in our group life, disability and health plan. We provide you with free parking in the lot adjacent to our professional building and pay your bar admission course fees.
Application for Articling Position
If you wish to apply for an articling position with our firm, please submit the following documents: cover letter, resume, university transcripts (photocopies are acceptable), and references (if available).
